Permits For Everest Cho La Pass Trek
Permit to enter Khumbu Rural Municipality, you will require two permissions for the EBC Cho la Pass Trek: the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit.
The Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality office is located at the end of Lukla settlement, where you will begin your journey on the first day. You can obtain a permit for Khumbu Rural Municipality there. The procedure for obtaining a permit is quite simple, and it is also displayed on boards.
Similarly, you can obtain a Sagarmatha National Park permit at the Lukla counter as well. Getting a permit from Kathmandu is a preferable alternative because there may be a big line during peak season.
Without charging extra, your Green Nomad Treks guide will arrange for all the permissions you’ll need for your trek.
Transportation services for the Trek
Our Pristine Nepal Trek representative will be awaiting you at the airport to welcome you with a friendly greeting and transport you safely to your hotel (vehicle will be arranged according to your number of guests).

Upon your arrival at the airport, one of our "Green Nomad Treks" representatives will be waiting for you outside. If you haven't already obtained a visa, you can get an on-arrival visa at the airport's immigration department. The process may take one to two hours to complete.
Once all the procedures at the airport are done, we will head to your hotel in Thamel in a private vehicle. Thamel is about 7 km from the airport, and the drive typically takes 30-35 minutes.
In the evening, you can explore Thamel, the tourist hub of Kathmandu, which offers plenty of exciting attractions to discover.
Day 02 : Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2,610m) - 3 Hours
Early in the morning, your guide will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the domestic airport terminal for your flight to Lukla, a short 30-minute scenic journey.
During the busy season (October-November), flights operate from Ramechhap Airport due to high air traffic at Kathmandu Airport. Ramechhap is just a 4-hour drive from Kathmandu.
Upon arrival in Lukla, you'll meet your porter and enjoy breakfast before beginning your trek to Phakding. The first day's trek is a 3-4 hour walk through several villages, including Chaurikharkha, Ghat, and Thadokoshi. You'll stop for the night in Phakding.
Day 03 : trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) - 7 Hours
The morning trek starts after breakfast, following the trail along the Dudhkoshi River. It's an easy walk up to Jhorsalle, passing through several picturesque villages along the way. During today's trek, you'll cross five suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Bridge adorned with colorful Buddhist prayer flags, just before reaching Namche Bazaar.
After crossing the Hillary Bridge, the trail becomes a steep uphill climb to Namche Bazaar, which takes about 2-3 hours. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 04 : Acclimatization and rest day
After two days of trekking and gaining altitude, today you'll take a rest day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization. Following breakfast, you'll hike to Syangboche and the Everest viewpoint, where you'll be treated to stunning views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, the beautiful Ama-Dablam, Thamserku, Nuptse, Kongde, Khumbila, and more. You'll also stop at the Everest View Hotel for a brief tea break before returning to your hotel for the rest of the day or to explore Namche Bazaar.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 05 : Trek to Tyangboche (3,860m) - 5 Hours
Today, we'll begin our trek along a straightforward trail through lush forests, leading to Kyangjuma. From there, we'll descend to Phunki Thanga, where we can stop for lunch or continue trekking. Afterward, the trail becomes a steep uphill climb until we reach Tyangboche, where we'll stay overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 06 : Trek to Dingboche (4,410m) - 5 Hours
After breakfast, we’ll begin the trek, passing through rhododendron forests until we reach Pangboche village. As we ascend to a higher altitude, it's important to walk at a steady pace. After a few more hours of trekking, we will arrive at our destination. Overnight stay in Dingboche.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 07 : Acclimatization and rest day
Today is another acclimatization day, and it is recommended to hike to a higher altitude and return to the same spot for an overnight stay. Dingboche is situated at 4,400m above sea level, offering two exploration options for the day.
You can either visit Chhukung Village at 4,830m or hike to Nagarjun Hill at 5,100m, with the latter being the more popular choice for testing your endurance before reaching Everest Base Camp. The trek to Nagarjun Hill typically takes 3 to 4 hours to ascend and about 2 hours to descend back to Dingboche. The afternoon is free for rest.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 08 : Trek to Lobuche (4,910m) - 6 Hours
Starting today, you will be trekking at higher altitudes. The first part of the trail is relatively easy, with gradual, flat terrain offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains until you reach Thukla. Be cautious near Thukla (4,600m), as the trail can be unstable due to the fast-flowing river.
After Thukla, you'll ascend to Lobuche Pass (4,870m), known for its memorials honoring mountaineers. From the pass, it’s a gentle, flat trek of about an hour to reach Lobuche (4,910m).
Along the way, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of Tawache, Cholatse, Lobuche Peak, Ama Dablam, Pumori, and more. Overnight stay in Lobuche.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 09 : Trek to EBC (5,364m) and back to Gorakshep (5,164m) - 7 Hours
Today marks the highlight of your trek as you reach the base camp of the world’s highest mountain.
Everest Base Camp, at 5,364m, is the highest base camp in the world. It takes approximately three hours to trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,180m). You can leave your belongings at Gorakshep, taking only your water bottle and camera.
From Gorakshep, it’s a two-hour trek to Everest Base Camp, where you'll witness the impressive Khumbu Icefall nearby. In the spring, the area is filled with tents, while in the autumn, it's nearly empty.
You’ll have time for photos before returning to Gorakshep for an overnight stay. If you're feeling energetic and not too tired from the altitude and trekking, it's recommended to hike up to Kalapathar (5,545m) for a stunning sunset view of Mount Everest.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 10 : Hike to Kalapatthar (5,545m) and trek to Dzongla (4,800m) - 7 Hours
Hike to Kalapathar (5,545m) early in the morning to catch the breathtaking sunrise. While the sunset views from Kalapathar are stunning, some trekkers may find it challenging to reach Kalapathar after visiting Everest Base Camp in one day. Therefore, an early morning hike is a great option.
After enjoying the views from Kalapathar, return to Gorakshep for breakfast before embarking on your trek to Dzongla, preparing for the Chola Pass.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 11 : Cross Cho La Pass (5,420m) and trek to Thangnak (4,700m) - 8 Hours
Today will be both special and challenging as you tackle the Chola Pass (5,420m), known as the Everest High Pass and a major highlight of this trek. It’s advisable to start early in the morning. The trek from Dzongla to the top of Chola Pass takes about three hours. Since you’ll be in high-altitude areas, it's important to proceed slowly.
Be cautious around the pass, as there can be risks of avalanches and falling rocks. The descent from Chola Pass is also considered difficult; if there's snow, the slippery rocks can make it even more challenging. You’ll need about another three hours to descend to Thangnak (4,830m) for an overnight stay.
Day 12 : Trek to Gokyo (4,750m) and rest - 4 Hours
After breakfast at Thangna, you will trek to Gokyo. The trail through the glacier areas is quite rough and unstable. Although the distance to Gokyo isn't long, the conditions can be dangerous due to the glacier. If there is snow, extra caution is necessary, which is why hiring an experienced guide for this trek is highly recommended. The trek from Thangna to Gokyo takes about 3 to 4 hours. Upon reaching Gokyo, you’ll have time to explore the area and relax for the day.
Day 13 : Hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m) and trek to Dole (4,0387m) - 7 Hours
Today promises to be another amazing experience. You’ll start your day with an early morning hike to Gokyo Ri (5,360m), the most stunning viewpoint in the Everest region. This vantage point offers a breathtaking 360° view of the mountains. From here, you can see the highest peak, Mount Everest (8,848m), along with the 4th highest peak, Mt. Lhotse (8,516m), the 5th highest peak, Mt. Makalu (8,481m), the 6th highest peak, Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m), and many other mountains rising over 7,000m and 6,000m.
After enjoying the spectacular views, return to your hotel and then trek to Dole for an overnight stay.
Day 14 : Trek to Namche Bazaar - 6 Hours
After breakfast, you'll trek back to Namche Bazaar. The first part of the trail in the morning is a downhill stretch to Phortse Thanga, followed by a steep uphill climb to Mong La Danda. From there, you’ll descend sharply to Lausasa, which is part of the main trail to Everest Base Camp.
You’ll recognize this area from your earlier trek to Tyangboche. Once you reach this point, the trail becomes easier and wider as you make your way to Namche Bazaar. You’ll spend the night in Namche Bazaar again, where you can enjoy a hot shower and relax.
Day 15 : Trek to Lukla - 7 Hours
Your morning will begin with a delicious breakfast before you start walking downhill along the same trail. You’ll follow the Dudh Koshi River, passing through Jorsalle, Monjo, TokTok, Phakding, Ghat, Thadokoshi, Chaurikharka, and finally reaching Lukla.
You’ll enjoy your last lunch in Phakding before embarking on a few more hours of trekking to Lukla. The ascent just before Lukla can be tiring, but you’ll finally arrive for your last night in the mountains. It’s time to bid farewell to your porters. Most of them will return to the landing field to retrieve your backpack, but officially, their duties will conclude here.
Day 16 : Fly back to Kathmandu
You’ll enjoy a short scenic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, which takes about 30 minutes. However, due to high air traffic at Kathmandu Airport, flights may occasionally go to Ramechhap instead.
If you do fly to Ramechhap from Lukla, there will be a 4-hour drive to Kathmandu, giving you a free afternoon to relax.
Typically, we host a farewell dinner on this day. We will take you to a reputable Nepali restaurant for dinner, accompanied by a traditional Nepali cultural show. We welcome your comments, complaints, and suggestions, as we are committed to providing the best service to our guests.
Day 17 : Final Departure
If today is your departure day, we will take you to the airport according to your flight schedule. It has been our pleasure to make your trip memorable and wonderful, and you can always reach out to us—we're here for you.
If it’s not your departure day, we can discuss your future travel plans or any other topics of interest.
